Development and growth are complex issues that are confronting all the area cities as well as the counties but is not be addressed in any coordinated way. WE need a means to develop a plan that takes into account all of the parties involved including the public in a meaningful way. We need to ask how much growth is good? How does growth affect our quality of life and our standard of living? Who benefits and who suffers? What is the relationship between growth and sustainability? How much growth is due to second homes and homes over 3000 square feet? Can we asses property tax according to greenhouse gas responsibility?
There are a lot of variables that can be included in figuring out what we want our future area to look like but starting an inclusive discussion seems like an obvious need. Otherwise we just develop willy nilly and who wants to do that?
